Captain John “Sharky” Blanchard owner of Sharkys Charter Fishing
They call him Sharky for a reason. John Blanchard was raised on the Newport docks, riding on his grandpa’s lap, chasing salmon before he could walk. By 15, he was commercial trolling, skippering at night, and gutting limits. He earned a Marine Biology Degree from Oregon State, spent seven years as a Bering Sea fisheries observer, then ran his own 42-foot wooden troller/crabbing boat.
In 2015 he started Sharky’s Charter Fishing with one fast six-pack aluminum boat and a crazy idea: target trophy lingcod and halibut with electric reels. It worked. With help from social media, Born and Raised Outdoors, and Angler West TV, Sharky’s blew up.
Today, he runs the fastest, newest fleet on the Oregon coast—six boats, six hand-picked captains, all built on the playbook Sharky wrote first.
You’ll find him on his 32-ft Raider Cape Blanco (heated cabin, private head, built for speed and comfort), still chasing salmon on his days off and putting clients on monster lings, halibut, tuna, and rockfish the way only a guy who’s been obsessed with this ocean his whole life can.
